Thomas Eimer III, Western and Equestrian Jewelry Artist, revives for us the near lost art of horseshoe nail jewelry.

Since 1973, Tom has worked with the common horseshoe nail, creating and assembling each piece, using horseshoe nail duplicates cast in gold and silver, then wrapped in 14k gold wire.

Originally a native New Yorker, Tom draws from his past experiences with the Manhattan equestrian crowd, and from old gypsies he met on the road while traveling to shows around the countryside.

The ambience of the islands is apparent throughout Tom's unique works, such as his Mocko Jumbie, the colorful and magical stilt dancers – the “healing spirits” of the islands.

Tom has lived on St. Croix, United States Virgin Islands since 1978. Tom and his partner Debby enjoy the local Crucian culture, art, music, and cooking, surrounded by island bliss and their three dogs and cats. They are ocean lovers who frequently dive in the sparkling Caribbean sea. When not creating his beautiful jewelry, Tom plays a variety of musical instruments, and can often be found playing piano at restaurants around the island.

Horseshoe nail jewelry is a very old craft dating back to the Celts and more recently, the Romany Gypsies. On the eve of the full moon lovers gave to each other jewelry made from Horseshoe nails. Celtic legend has it: if they were not kind of heart and pure in Spirit the nails would straighten and pierce the hearts of the one that were untrue.

Tom’s handcrafted jewelry includes his equestrian interpretation of the world famous St. Croix Hook Bracelet. This bracelet is recognized as a symbol of love. Worn with the opening towards your heart, you are taken. Worn away from your heart, you are yet looking for true love!
